Trick 'r Treat (2007) feat. Marisa Mirabal - Horror Queers

Trick 'r Treat (2007) feat. Marisa Mirabal

Released on 10/21/2020

Keep those pumpkins lit and pass out the candy because this week on the pod we're discussing Mike Dougherty's 2007 (or is it 2009?) Trick 'r Treat. Joining us is fellow writer (and Trace's real life co-worker!) Marisa Mirabal, who agrees with Joe that this is the best horror anthology film, why she hates superhero films and why the film's score deserves more praise. Plus: which segments we prefer, Sam's ascent into the horror icon hall of fame (merchandising!) and the film's unfortunate connection to not one, but two shitty men! Questions? Comments? Snark? Rebecca (1940) - Horror Queers

Rebecca (1940)

Released on 10/14/2020

Last night, we dreamt we went to Manderley again, but today we're actually going there! We're going to be discussing lesbian housekeepers and spousal abuse in Alfred Hitchcock's only Best Picture-winning film: Rebecca! Join us as we discuss all the drama behind the tense relationship between Hitch and producer David O. Selznick before looking at how the Hays Code affected the film (bye bye, Maxim the Murderer!). Plus, a queer reading of the villainous housekeeper Mrs. Danvers and how she may be a reflection of Rebecca author Daphne du Maurier's internalized homophobia. Also, why does Maxim suck so much? How does Rebecca, a character we never see, make such a huge impression? And is Mrs Danvers actually a tragic figure? Questions? Comments? Snark? The Final Girls (2015) feat. Jenn Adams - Horror Queers

The Final Girls (2015) feat. Jenn Adams

Released on 10/07/2020

This week on the podcast, we're escaping into the movies (literally) to revisit queer screenwriters M.A. Fortin & Joshua John Miller's meta horror comedy The Final Girls. Joining us at Camp Bloodbath is Jenn Adams, co-host of Psycho Analysis Podcast and The Losers Club Podcast, who has a deep appreciation for the film's emotional beats. We spend plenty of time unpacking this comfort horror film, particularly the mother/daughter relationship between Malin Akerman and Trace's fave, Taissa Farmiga, and Vicki (Nina Dobrev)'s redemptive arc. Plus: disagreements over Adam Devine and Thomas Middleditch's humor, getting sidetracked talking about everyone's filmography and the apex of Joe's inability to pronounce names correctly. Questions? Comments? Snark?
