Just in time for Singles Awareness Day, we're losing our hearts to the 1981 Canadian slasher, My Bloody Valentine...or at least Joe is. Trace is more lukewarm on the George Mihalka film, which suffers from an uninspired villain reveal and too many characters.

We discuss the size (and deliciousness?) of hearts, why TJ's narrative is important for small town Nova Scotians, the cost of dirtying up a mine and Joe's strange personal connection to one of the film's actors.

Plus: love triangles, the film's censorship woes, Scream Factory gore and Scooby Doo antics. Happy Valentine's Day, everybody!

Our month of 3s has ended, so we're kicking off February with a discussion of Vincenzo Natali's supremely messed up sci-fi horror film (and secret Dark Castle film) Splice, which also acts as an early celebration of Joe's birthday! Joining us for the chat is Prince Jackson, host of our sister podcast Knight Light!

Before we get to it, just a heads up if you've never seen the film: we're issuing content warnings for rape, animal death, incest and (depending on how you view Dren) pedophilia and/or bestiality.

Obviously, we've got to talk about that ending, but we'll also gush over Canadian national treasure Sarah Polley, debate the film's unlikable mad scientist protagonists and try to gauge audience reactions when this hit theaters 11 years ago.

Plus, discussions of bad parenting paired with comparisons to Renny Harlin's Deep Blue Sea and Francis Ford Coppola's Jack!

Our month of 3s comes to a close with David Fincher's Alien 3 (1992), which may take the prize for most convoluted production history. Here to help us make sense of the Assembly Cut (not the theatrical cut) is returning guest Sade Sellers (see previous episode Orphan), who has issues with the film's treatment of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and sexual assault (content warning!)

Plus: our secret connections to the number three, the xenomorph as drag queen, the differences between the theatrical and assembly cuts and Charles S. Dutton as a sacrificial lamb. Also: Joe's love of Charles Dance, confusion over "womb stuff" and why Fincher needs to get over his hatred of his directorial debut.

We're in our third week of 3s, and what better way to celebrate than with good ol' Norman Bates himself in Anthony Perkins' directorial debut Psycho III? Despite the film's iconic opening line, there has to be a God, right? otherwise we wouldn't have this darkly comedic entry in the Psycho franchise!

Join us as we delve deep into the closeted life of Anthony Perkins, look for queerness in his unique directing style (so many colors and fun transitions!), lament the rushed third act and become flabbergasted at one of the most incoherent exposition dumps ever put on film.

Plus, suicidal nuns, Jeff Fahey's teeth, bloody ice, strategically placed purple lamps, and the franchise's very own Gale Weathers in Roberta Maxwell's ambitious journalist Tracy Venable. This is a wild one, y'all!

Our month of 3s continues with Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, the third entry in the Hellraiser franchise and who better to join us than mega fan Bryan Christopher? In the 1992 Anthony Hickox-directed film, the action shifts from the UK to New York (cough North Carolina cough) as Doug Bradley's Pinhead channels Freddy and Wishmaster while tempting a playboy club owner, a homeless runaway and an ambitious reporter.

Expect another troubled production, the first use of CGI in a horror film and not one, but TWO over the top set pieces, including an infamous nightclub murder spree and a blasphemous church sequence. Plus: pillar jokes, kitchen fires and lots of tangents about the terrible sequels in the franchise's back half.
