Ep 390

The Cable Guy (1996) feat. Kill By Kill

Episode | 124 min | Jun 10, 2026

Get ready to tell us where you like it as we head to Medieval Times because we're discussing Ben Stiller's Jim Carrey-starring black comedy The Cable Guy (1996) for its 30th anniversary! Tagging in for the conversation are Patrick Hamilton and Gena Radcliffe of the Kill By Kill Podcast.

Join us as we go all in on the oddly prescient (and highly media literate) film made famous by Jim Carrey's $20 million paycheck. From Carrey's incredibly creepy performance to a nightmare sequence straight out of A Nightmare on Elm Street, there are a lot more horror (and homoerotic) undertones to this film than you might expect!

Plus, that iconic karaoke sequence, sexy Jack Black and comparisons to Single White Female, So I Married an Axe Murderer and Scream

Ep 389

Queen of the Damned (2002)

Episode | 136 min | Jun 3, 2026

Practice your Egyptian accent and bare that midriff because we are talking the troubled "adaptation" of Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned (2002).

Directed by Australian Michael Rymer, this one was doomed by the suits before it was even greenlit (which happened AFTER all of the songs were written by Korn frontman Jonathan Davis). It's a bit of a clusterfuck.

Plus: praising everything Aaliyah (RIP); critiquing everything Stuart Townsend (aside from his abs and leather pants); a soft queer reading of Marius; and bemoaning boring protagonist/audience surrogate JESSE.

Ep 388

Theater of Blood (1973)

Episode | 96 min | May 27, 2026

Brush up on your Shakespeare and protect those poodles because we're covering our very first Vincent Price film in Douglas Hickox's horror comedy Theater of Blood (1973), a personal favorite of both Price and Diana Rigg.

Join us as we go all in on this somewhat episodic (but also educational!) proto-slasher, wondering if we're supposed to know that's Diana Rigg in hippie drag, and cackling at some of these murder set pieces.

Plus, "Handsy Dickman," narcissistic gravestones, antisemitic stage makeup, and the ultimate debate: is it theatER or theatRE?

C/W: Attempted suicide, off-screen dog murder.

Interview: Ginger Snaps' Katherine Isabelle, Emily Perkins and John Fawcett

Bonus | 18 min | May 22, 2026

We sat down to interview Ginger Snaps director John Fawcett and stars Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins in celebration of the film's 25th anniversary and recent 4K release from Lionsgate.

Up for discussion: the enduring appeal of the film, why it speaks to queer audiences, how the sequels came to be, and the possibility of a television show (Ginger Snaps: Bailey Downs anyone?)

Micro Queers: The Retreat (2021)

Bonus | 19 min | May 21, 2026

In honor of its fifth anniversary, we're chatting Canadian thriller The Retreat (2021), which pits a lesbian couple against homophobes at an isolated cabin in the woods.

Screenwriter Alyson Richards and director Pat Mills' survival horror adds a queer element to a familiar premise, which doesn't entirely make the film stand out. Still, it's a good opportunity for Joe to revisit a film he had issues with.

Plus: good gore; an untapped backstory for Renee (Tommie-Amber Pirie), and comparisons to other recent queer horror titles.

Ep 387

The Fan (1981) feat. Michael Varrati

Episode | 130 min | May 20, 2026

Stay out of the pool and work on your singing because we're talking Edward Bianchi's The Fan (1981) starring Grand Dame Lauren Bacall and a twinky Michael Biehn.

Joining us for the discussion is returning guest Michael Varrati, who dubs the film "parasocial peril" and praises Bacall's emotionally vulnerable performance as aging starlet Sally Ross.

Look for adaptation questions about Bob Randall's pulpy source material; critiquing James Garner's autobiography; and highlighting the subway stalking and pool slicing sequences.

Plus: the queer coding of Douglas Breen; the film's uneasy place in (horror) history; and trying to figure out the plot of in-movie musical Never Say Never.
