In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, Karen has chosen the 1993 film “Leprechaun” for our viewing enjoyment. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while they enjoy a “Pot of Gold Cocktail”. The recipe that Karen found on “thespruceeats.com” is below.

Pot of Gold Cocktail Recipe

• 5 (1-inch thick) cucumber slices, divided
• 8 fresh mint leaves
• 2 oz vodka
• 1/2 oz elderflower liqueur or syrup
• 1 oz ginger beer
• mint sprig, for garnish

Instructions:

1. Gather the ingredients.
2. In the bottom of a cocktail shaker, muddle 4 slices of cucumber and 8 mint leaves.
3. Add the vodka and elderflower liqueur and fill with ice.
4. Shake well.
5. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, then top with ginger beer.
6. Garnish with the remaining cucumber slice and a sprig of mint. Serve and enjoy.

A Brief Synopsis: Dan O’Grady steals 100 gold coins from a leprechaun while on vacation in Ireland. The leprechaun follows him home, but Dan locks the murderous midget in a crate, held at bay by a four-leaf clover. Ten years later, J.D. Redding and his daughter, Tory, rent O’Grady’s property for the summer. When their new neighbors accidentally release the leprechaun, he goes on a murderous rampage to reclaim his gold.

Celebrating the anniversary of it’s release on March 5th, 1954, Greg has chosen the Universal classic film, “Creature from the Black Lagoon”. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while enjoying a “Creature from the Black Lagoon Cocktail”. The recipe that Greg found on cocktailbuilder.com is below.

Creature from the Black Lagoon Cocktail

• 1 1/2 oz vanilla vodka
• 1 oz green creme de menthe
• chocolate syrup

Instructions:

1. Combine both the vanilla vodka and the green creme de menthe in a cocktail shaker with ice.
2. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass that has been drizzled with chocolate syrup.
3. Enjoy!

A Brief Synopsis: Remnants of a mysterious animal have come to light in a remote jungle, and a group of scientists intends to determine if the find is an anomaly or evidence of an undiscovered beast. To accomplish their goal, the scientists must brave the most perilous pieces of land South America has to offer. But the terrain is nothing compared to the danger posed by an otherworldly being that endangers their work and their lives.

Voodoo Magic Cocktail Recipe

• 1 part whiskey
• 1 part vodka
• 1 part amaretto
• 1 part sour mix
• 1 part pineapple juice
• 1 part orange juice
• cranberry juice

Instructions:

1. Fill a shaker halfway with ice.
2. Add ingredients.
3. Shake until mixed well.
4. Strain over ice.
5. Add a splash of cranberry juice.
6. Enjoy!

A Brief Synopsis: Deep in the jungles, a mad scientist is using the natives’ voodoo for his experiments to create an indestructible being to serve his will. When a party of gold seekers stumbles upon his village, the scientist realizes that Marilyn the expedition’s evil leader is the perfect subject for his work.

Greg has finally bought into Karen’s belief that February is the “month of love”. Continuing on that theme, Greg has chosen the 1935 film “The Black Cat” for our viewing pleasure. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while they enjoy a “Black Cat Cocktail”. Greg found the recipe below on justapinch.com.

Black Cat Cocktail Recipe

• 1 oz blue curacao
• 1 oz vodka
• 3 oz lemon lime soda
• 1 oz cranberry juice
• lime juice
• lime twist for garnish

Instructions:

1. Fill a shaker halfway with ice.
2. Add curacao, vodka and lime juice.
3. Shake until mixed well.
4. Add soda and stir.
5. Pour cranberry juice into a tall glass.
6. Over the back of a spoon, gently strain the mixed ingredients over the cranberry juice, being careful not to completely mix the two for presentation.
7. Serve with a cocktail stirrer and a lime twist for garnish.

A Brief Synopsis: After a road accident in Hungary, the American honeymooners Joan and Peter and the enigmatic Dr Werdegast find refuge in the house of the famed architect Hjalmar Poelzig, who shares a dark past with the doctor.

Hair Raiser Recipe

• 1 oz vodka
• 1 oz sweet vermouth
• tonic water – to top
• lemon and lime for garnish

Instructions:

1. Fill a highball glass with ice.
2. Add vodka and sweet vermouth, then top with tonic water.
3. Garnish with a lemon twist and a lime twist.

A Brief Synopsis: After recovering from injuries sustained in the mob attack upon himself and his creation, Dr. Frankenstein falls under the control of his former mentor, Dr. Pretorius, who insists the now-chastened doctor resume his experiments in creating new life. Meanwhile, the Monster remains on the run from those who wish to destroy him without understanding that his intentions are generally good despite his lack of socialization and self-control.

A Brief Synopsis: Dr. Bernard Adrian is researching a way to help a wheelchair-bound patient, Frances, use her legs again. The only way he can achieve this is by procuring spinal fluid from a human. When an ape escapes from a circus, Dr. Adrian kills it in a confrontation and successfully uses its spinal fluid on Frances — but he needs more. Using the ape’s body as a suit, he kills townspeople in a crazed attempt to complete his plan.

Broken Heart Cocktail

• 2 parts vodka
• 1 part pomegranate and/or cranberry juice
• 1/2 to 1 part Triple Sec or Cointreau

Instructions:

1. Mix ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake well.
2. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
3. Add pomegranate seeds and/or cranberries for decoration.

• 1/2 oz vodka
• 1 oz blue curacao liqueur

1. Pour spirits in a glass.

3. Preferred served with a blue cherry

A Brief Synopsis: David and Jack, two American college students, are backpacking through Britain when a large wolf attacks them. David survives with a bite, but Jack is brutally killed. As David heals in the hospital, he’s plagued by violent nightmares of his mutilated friend, who warns David that he is becoming a werewolf. When David discovers the horrible truth, he contemplates committing suicide before the next full moon causes him to transform from man to murderous beast.

Continuing on our month long salute to wolf movies, Karen has chosen to subject us to the 1943 Universal film “Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man”, starring Lon Chaney Jr. and Bela Lugosi. The cocktail for this week is the Gin and Tonic. The recipe from AllRecipes.com is below.

Gin and Tonic Recipe

• 4 cubes ice
• 2 oz gin
• 4 oz tonic water
• 1 Tbsp lime juice
• 1 lime wedge

Instructions:

1. Place the ice cubes in a tall, narrow glass with the ice coming near the top.
2. Pour gin, tonic water, and lime juice over the ice. Stir well with a long-necked spoon.
3. Garnish with lime wedge, and serve immediately.

A Brief Synopsis: Lawrence Stewart Talbot is plagued by a physical oddity that turns him into a crazed werewolf after sundown. His desire to rid himself of this ailment leads him to the castle owned by mad scientist Dr. Frankenstein. Frankenstein, it turns out, is now dead, yet Talbot believes that the scientist’s daughter, Baroness Elsa Frankenstein, can help him. However, his quest to right himself puts him on a collision course with Frankenstein’s monster.

Full Moon Cocktail

• 2 shots coconut rum
• 2 shots vodka
• cola

Instructions:

1. Put 2-3 ice cubes into a highball glass.
2. Add two shots of coconut rum and two shots of vodka, then top up with cola.
3. Stir and serve.

A Brief Synopsis: While in Tibet researching a mysterious flower that purportedly takes its strength from the moon, botanist Wilfred Glendon is bitten by a strange creature. Back in London, Glendon becomes absorbed in his research of the plant, and is annoyed by the appearance of fellow scientist Dr. Yogami, who reveals that the plant is the only known temporary antidote for werewolves. Glendon remains skeptical until the next full moon, when he undergoes a startling transformation.
