Proving that sometimes a film does not need a “reimagining” or “remake”, Greg has chosen the 1981 made for TV movie “Dark Night of the Scarecrow” for our viewing enjoyment this week. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while they enjoy a delicious cocktail, the “Scarecrow Cocktail”. The recipe that Greg found on the Secret of the Booze YouTube channel is below.
Scarecrow Cocktail Recipe
• 1 oz vanilla vodka
• 3/4 oz creme de cacao
• 3/4 oz butterscotch schnapps
• splash orange juice
• cocoa powder
Instructions:
- Top Martini glass with Coco Powder.
- Mix all liquors in a shaker.
- Pour into a martini glass.
- Top with Orange Juice and serve with a candy corn on a stick.
A Brief Synopsis: Strange occurrences plague a group of vigilantes who took vengeance on a man wrongly accused of harming a youngster.

Rosemary’s Baby – SSP055

In honor of Mother’s Day, Karen has selected the 1968 film “Rosemary’s Baby” for our viewing pleasure. Watch it with Mom and celebrate. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while enjoying a “Vodka Blush Cocktail”. Karen found the recipe below on helloglow.co.
Vodka Blush Cocktail
• 2 1/2 oz vodka
• dash grenadine
• 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
• 1 sprig rosemary for garnish
Instructions:
- Fill a shaker with ice.
- Add all ingredients except the rosemary and shake.
- Strain into a champagne glass and garnish with fresh rosemary.
A Brief Synopsis: The film follows a young, pregnant wife in Manhattan who comes to suspect that her elderly neighbors are members of a Satanic cult, and are grooming her in order to use her baby for their rituals. It is based on the 1967 novel of the same name by Ira Levin.

- Product Placement – There seemed to be a lot of product placement in this film. We won’t mention all the brands here, because they aren’t sponsoring us.

- Lullaby Intro – The lullaby intro to the film (Sleep Safe and Worm) was sung by Mia Farrow. Who knew?
- Ultrasounds – They were available at the time the film takes place. Probably would have been a good idea for Rosemary to get one.
- Tony Curtis – He is a voice actor in this film.

Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932) – SSP054

For our viewing enjoyment this week, Greg has chosen the 1932 pre-code Universal film “Murders in the Rue Morgue” starring Bela Lugosi and Sidney Fox. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while they enjoy a “Bloody Monkey” cocktail. The recipe that Greg found on cocktailbuilder.com is below.
Bloody Monkey Cocktail Recipe
• 1 oz of grenadine syrup
• 1 oz of vodka
• 1 dash of ginger ale
• 1 oz of DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker schnapps
• 8 oz of 7-up soda (or Sprite)
Instructions:
- Half-fill a highball glass with ice.
- Pour the grenadine around the inside of the glass and on top of the ice to give that bloody look to it.
- Add the vodka (more if you prefer), then the sour apple pucker.
- Add the ginger ale, and then fill with 7-up.
- Garnish as desired, and serve.
A Brief Synopsis: In 1845 Paris, mysterious Dr. Mirakle demonstrates his theories on evolution using his ape, Erik, at a carnival visited by medical student Pierre Dupin and his girlfriend, Camille Espanaye. Unknown to his audience, Mirakle performs experiments in his secret laboratory that involve mixing human blood with that of Erik’s. After three prostitutes are found dead from being injected with a strange substance, Pierre is alarmed when Camille goes missing.

Dracula’s Daughter – SSP053

As the podcast begins a new year, Karen has selected the 1936 Universal film “Dracula’s Daughter” for our viewing pleasure this week. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while they enjoy an “Excellent Eyelashes” cocktail. The recipe that Karen found on cocktailbuilder.com is below.
Excellent Eyelashes Cocktail Recipe
• 1 1/2 oz bourbon
• 1/2 oz of maraschino liqueur
• 1/2 oz of ginger liqueur
• 1/2 oz of lime juice
• 2 dashes of bitters
• 1 oz of ginger beer
Instructions:
- Combine spirits, lime juice, and bitters in mixing glass.
- Stir with ice, and double-strain into rocks glass over more ice.
- Finish with ginger beer.
A Brief Synopsis: Although Count Dracula was destroyed by Van Helsing, who is now being tried for his murder, Dracula’s daughter, the Countess Marya Zaleska, is still alive — and her father’s death has brought her no closer to eradicating her vampiric thirst for blood. When attempts to free herself of the disease fail, she turns to psychiatrist Dr. Garth for assistance, but soon finds herself struggling with the desire to make him one of the undead as well.

Our One Year Anniversary Spectacular – SSP052

• 1 & 1/2 ounces coconut rum
• 1/2 ounce blue curacao
• Equal parts pineapple juice and sour mix
Instructions:
- Add all ingredients in a shaker.
- Shake vigorously until nice and frothy.
- Pour over rocks in a 12 ounce tumbler.
- Garnish with a gummy shark.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes – SSP051

Karen was in the mood to watch “something fun and light hearted” this week, so she has chosen to subject us to the 1978 horror film spoof, “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes”. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss and critique the film while drinking a “Bloody Mary”. Below is the drink recipe that Greg discovered on absolutdrinks.com.
Bloody Mary Recipe
• 1 1/2 oz vodka
• 5 oz tomato juice
• 4 dashes hot sauce
• 1/3 oz worcestershire sauce
• 1/3 oz lemon juice
• 1 pinch ground black pepper
• 1 pinch garlic salt
• 1 wedge lemon
• 1 stick celery
Instructions:
- Fill a mixing glass with ice cubes.
- Add all ingredients.
- Stir and pour into a highball glass.
- Garnish with a lemon wedge and a celery stick.
A Brief Synopsis: In a spoof of low-budget sci-fi films, oozing tomatoes go on the rampage, splattering innocent victims.

In celebration of Roger Corman’s birthday on April 5th, Greg has selected the 1959 film “A Bucket of Blood” which was produced by Mr. Corman to view this episode. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while they enjoy a “Beatnik Cocktail”. The recipe that Greg found on “liquor.com” is below.
Beatnik Cocktail Recipe
• 1 1/2 oz amaro
• 1 oz tawny port
• 1 oz bourbon
• orange wheel for garnish
Instructions:
- Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
- Garnish with an orange wheel.
A Brief Synopsis: Nerdy Walter Paisley, a maladroit busboy at a beatnik café who doesn’t fit in with the cool scene around him, attempts to woo his beautiful co-worker, Carla, by making a bust of her. When his klutziness results in the death of his landlady’s cat, he panics and hides its body under a layer of plaster. But when Carla and her friends enthuse over the resulting artwork, Walter decides to create some bigger and more elaborate pieces using the same artistic process.

Piggy backing off of Greg’s choice of “Invaders From Mars”, Karen has chosen the 1956 film “Invasion of The Body Snatchers” for our viewing enjoyment this week. Alien Cocktail Recipe
• 1 part melon liqueuer
• 1 part coconut rum
• 1 part pineapple juice
Instructions:
- Combine and mix all ingredients in equal portions.
- Serve.

Being that we are in the month of March, and March is named after the Roman God of War, and the Planet Mars is named after the same God, Greg has picked the 1953 film “Invaders From Mars” for our viewing pleasure. Life on Mars Cocktail Recipe
• 1 oz coconut rum
• A small bottle of orange juice
• 3 1/3 oz lemonade
• 1 oz blue curacao
Instructions:
- Add all the ingredients into a highball glass with ice.
- Stir and serve.
