The Roommate (2011) feat. Ali Chappell - Horror Queers

The Roommate (2011) feat. Ali Chappell

Released on 01/24/2024

Put on your best fedora and pull that cat out of the dryer because we're discussing Christian E. Christiansen's teeny-bopper ripoff of Single White Female, The Roommate (2011)! Tagging in for the conversation is one of the film's superfans: Ali Chappell. Join us as we try (TRY) to figure out who thought this movie was a good idea, because nearly nothing in this shameless ripoff works. From it's incredibly stupid lead character to its complete lack of tension, it's a real misfire. God bless Leighton Meester, though, who at least tries to do something with a nothing role. Ultimately, The Roommate feels more like a business decision than an artistic one, which is a bummer given the cast that its working with. But hey, we've still got a semi-decent shower scene and a semi-thrilling climactic battle so....there's that? Questions? Comments? Snark? The Covenant (2006) - Horror Queers

The Covenant (2006)

Released on 01/17/2024

Q: What do you get when you cross The Lost Boys with The Craft but make it awful? A: J.S. Cardone and Renny Harlin's The Covenant (2006), which features hot boy witches throwing globs of CGI semen at each other! We have so much to say about this nonsense, including its overly complicated mythology and self-serious tone, villainous bisexual king Chase (played by Sebastian Stan), thankless damsels in distress, and addiction/gay allegories (paging Buffy S06). Plus: insects vs spiders, throwing the script supervisor under the bus, and why Stephen McHattie should have had a bigger role! Reference: DeVaughn Taylor. "The Covenant: A Queer-Coded Paradox." Killer Condom (1996) feat. Josh Hurtado

Released on 01/10/2024

Watch out for squeaky condoms and religious bigots because we're checking out Troma's German acquisition, Killer Condom (1996). Joining us for this wild ride is Josh Hurtado, who caught the film on the big screen back in the 90s! Together we're unpacking 32 cm of cock, writer Ralf König's source material, the Mackeroni/Billy relationship, Babette's pronouns, Psycho homages, ridiculously stereotypical names, and the surprising progressiveness of this 90s film. Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) feat. Bryan Christopher - Horror Queers

Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) feat. Bryan Christopher

Released on 01/03/2024

Put on your best white suit because we've got a date with a bloody mattress in Tony Randel's Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988). Tagging in for the discussion is our forever-Hellraiser guest: Bryan Christopher! Join us as we heap all the deserve praise on Clare Higgins' Julia Cotton, who finally gets her due in this spectacular sequel. Hellbound astounds with a bigger budget and more world building, but sometimes suffers from an unfocused kitchen sink approach that the first film wisely avoided. Plus: humanizing the Cenobites, discussing what a "sex movie" is, Trace's unlikely remake proposition, Ashley Laurence's excellent "WTF" face and Julia's America's Next Top Model vortex challenge.
