Ep 249

Stranger by the Lake (2013)

Episode | 122 min

We're wrapping up Erotic Thriller month with the gayest text of all: French writer/director Alain Guiraudie's Stranger by the Lake (2013).

This is one of Joe's favorite queer horror texts because it covers so many topics: cruising, sex and death, voyeurism, body image, gay microcosms, STIs, toxic relationship, homophobia, and gay friendships.

And that's before we tackle the unsimulated sex, discuss using condoms for blowjobs, debate the ambiguous ending(s), and cringe over pervy Eric.

Plus: finding Franck frustrating, moustache inspirations, naturalistic lighting and sound, and why Henri is our favorite character.

Micro Queers: My Animal (2023)

Bonus | 17 min

Put on a coat and get home before midnight because we're discussing Jacqueline Castel's lesbian werewolf romance My Animal (2023).

Join us as we sing the praises of Castel's eye for aesthetics and Bobbi Salvör Menuez's lead performance, while lamenting the film's extended runtime and muted payoff. Still, there's enough here to earn a (slight) recommendation, as it features another solid performance from Bodies Bodies Bodies' Amandla Stenberg.

Ep 248

Bound (1996) feat. Kay Lynch

Episode | 131 min

Get ready for a world of wet because we're continuing our month of erotic thrillers with a look at the Wachowski sisters' 1996 ovinal queer classic Bound! Tagging in for the conversation is the founder of Salem Horror Fest: Kay Lynch!

Join us as we kick things off with a brief discussion on the differences between noir and neo-noir before going all in on the casting drama that nearly cost us Jennifer Tilly! Then it's all (and we mean all) fair game as we analyze this masterpiece of queer cinema.

Plus: plenty of frank sexual conversations, femme tops, threatened masculinity, overhead shots galore, and all the praise for Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon's lead performances. And remember: Don't force the snake. Slow and easy does it.

Ep 132

Sorority Row (2009) feat. Adrian Rodriguez

Episode | 104 min

It's Theta Pi time, bitches! We're throwing a massive party to celebrate Stewart Handler's 2009 slasher comedy Sorority Row and along for all of the modified tire iron fun is Adrian Rodriguez of the Slash Her podcast, who loves the film as much as Trace.

Joe notoriously hated the film 4 years ago (Trace has the receipts!), but has come around on it. Still, expect plenty of debate about the balance between comedy and horror, particularly when it comes to the killer's reveal & motivation. We also worship at the altar of Jessica (Leah Pipes), comment on the film's very non-PC approach to sisterhood and sexual assault, and theorise why audiences hate Rumer Willis' Ellie.

Plus: why Carrie Fisher should have been the star, Adrian's Halloween QVC obsession and Joe elaborates why Chugs is the best
