Someone's Watching Me! (1978) - Horror Queers

Someone's Watching Me! (1978)

Released on 08/03/2022

Brush up on your stalking laws because we're heading to the City of Angels to discuss our very first TV movie in John Carpenter's Someone's Watching Me! (1978), which aired on NBC just one month after the release of Halloween! Join us as we do a crash course on the status of television movies in the '70s before analyzing Carpenter's subversion of the Final Girl trope and then rightfully praising the groundbreaking positive queer representation in Adrienne Barbeau's Sophie (before lamenting her inclusion in the "bury your gays" trope). Plus, plenty of Scooby-Doo connections, all kinds of gazes, the "right" way to come home from work and the ultimate question: Is Forth Worth, TX some sort of lesbian haven? Questions? Comments? Snark? Sleepaway Camp (1983) feat. Ten Backe - Horror Queers

Sleepaway Camp (1983) feat. Ten Backe

Released on 07/27/2022

For the last entry in our Camp series, we're finally tackling Robert Hiltzik's Sleepaway Camp (1983). Along for the short shorts and Judy of it all is returning guest - and big fan of the film - Ten Backe. The big question is whether this film is homophobic and transphobic. Hiltzik doesn't have a lot of thoughts on the matter, but we, and many trans film critics, do. Is Sleepaway Camp worthy of praise and (re)appropriation by the queer community? Plus: comparisons to Friday the 13th, thoughts on Judy's curling iron death, Art the pedophile cook, and the need for short shorts and male nudity! References: -Ten Backe. Flesh For Frankenstein (1974) feat. Reyna Cervantes

Released on 07/20/2022

Week 4 of the Summer of Camp finds us fucking life in the gallbladder with Flesh For Frankenstein (1974). Along for the ride is returning guest Reyna Cervantes, who loves Paul Morrissey's X-Rated satire, which could never be made today! After Trace provides a quick crash course on Andy Warhol and The Factory, we dive into the 3D, the Mafia (!) and the incest/necrophilia of it all (C/W by the way). Plus: hot Udo Kier, the destruction of the nuclear family, asexuality vs gay vibes, debates about male full frontal nudity, and James Cameron?   Questions? Comments? Snark? Female Trouble (1974) feat. Andy Scahill - Horror Queers

Female Trouble (1974) feat. Andy Scahill

Released on 07/13/2022

The Summer of Camp rolls on as Professor Andy Scahill returns to discuss our very first John Waters film, Female Trouble (1974). This is a great introduction to Waters, the Dreamlanders and Divine in a film that defines bad taste and trash. Come for the discussion on why Christmas is hard on queers, our love of Mink Stole and how the film evokes Waters' counter culture approach to indie filmmaking. Are you offended? Good! Nurse 3D (2013) - Horror Queers

Nurse 3D (2013)

Released on 07/06/2022

Grab your vecuronium and prepare to get bottomless because week two of the Summer of Camp is tackling Doug Aarniokoski's Nurse 3D (2013). This is just...what is this? It's Paz de la Huerta acting in a completely different film than the stacked cast around her. It's lawsuits and delays. It's fetish costuming, shitty 3D post-conversion and the wildest voice-over you've ever heard. Trace offers a recap lesson while Joe questions the poorly incorporated rape plot (C/W) while drawing a surprising number of comparisons to our Showgirls episode. But is it camp? We're still not sure what this film is; all we know is that we love our fucking jobs.
