Suspiria (2018) feat. Ari Drew

Released on 09/21/2022

Prepare your red rope costume and spread open that chest vagina because we're heading to divided Berlin in 1977 to discuss Luca Guadagnino's remake of Dario Argento's classic horror film Suspiria! Joining us for the conversation is Trace's better half Ari Drew, who is cashing in his annual guest spot ticket! Join us as we go all in on the film's disastrous release strategy before providing a crash course on the film's historical context that absolutely enriches the dense and layered text. Then we'll offer up a plethora of different interpretations of the film's themes and plot developments. Plus: our thoughts on Argento's original film, juicy matriarchs with baby arms, Volk, Tilda's triple threat and...lots of Disney connections (specifically Hercules and Sleeping Beauty)??? The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program: Night at Howling House - Horror Queers

The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program: Night at Howling House

Released on 09/15/2022

Here's a taster of the latest series from The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program entitled "Night at Howling House." The pod hails from our guest Cat Blackard (recently heard on 'The Lighthouse'). If you like what you hear, check out https://cthulhumystery.com/ or listen anywhere you get podcasts. Here's the description: The lazy days of summer are at an end and school is about to begin... but for five Arkham youths, reading, writing, and 'rithmetic is the least of their worries. They're spending the night in a notorious abandoned house and local legends say no one has ever lived to tell the tale. Of course, no sane schoolkid would dare to trespass in Howling House, but twelve-year-old Tenderfoot, Tommy "Woods" Northwood, his precocious kid sister Chelsea, and a forlorn little boy known only as "Dirt" don't have a choice. Roger Simmons, the neighborhood bully, and his protégé, Joey Davenport, have the leverage and pugilistic prowess to make a very convincing argument. Will they survive to see the sunrise, or is there something sinister waiting for them in that decrepit domicile? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Hellraiser (1987) feat. Bryan Christopher - Horror Queers

Hellraiser (1987) feat. Bryan Christopher

Released on 09/14/2022

Come to daddy and solve that puzzle box because we're revelling in the queer, cosmic horror of Clive Barker's Hellraiser (1987)! Tagging in for the discussion is returning guest (and Hellraiser franchise super fan) Bryan Christopher, who we can only assume is a masochist at heart. Join us as we go all in on the queer subtext that Barker injects into his directorial debut before heaping all the praise on Claire Higgins' performance as the complex Julia Cotton. There will be discussions of BDSM and consent, the torture porn label that is unfairly applied to the film, and all things Cenobites. Plus: Frank's precious goo, shoulder pads for days, one rude-ass nurse, an angry pet store lady, and the ultimate question: why aren't these characters diarrhea-ing all over themselves at the sight of some of this shit? And to think that Ebert said this film was a "bankruptcy of imagination"! Jesus wept. The Lure (2017) feat. Jessica Scott - Horror Queers

The Lure (2017) feat. Jessica Scott

Released on 09/07/2022

It's time to reel in the catch of the day: Polish coming of age mermaid musical horror film The Lure (2015 or 2017). Along for swim lessons is Jessica Scott, who helps to clarify that Silver's storyline does *not* complicate the film's feminist reading. Plus: the clear trans allegory, our fave musical numbers (and how the film connects to Burlesque), ties to both Disney and Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid and why Mietek SUCKS. Be wary of seismic activity because we're discussing Ron Underwood's 1990 creature feature, Tremors with the help of author and podcaster Cooper S. Beckett. Let's get this...er...straight right off the top: this is a very queer film! Not only are Val and Earl totally in a relationship, but Rhonda is lesbian-coded.
