Due to the untimely death of his aunt, journalist Karl Mathers leaves the dizzy heights of London behind after inheriting her cottage in the rural village of Devil's Pike. Working for the Devil's Pike Times newspaper he gets to meet the weird and wonderful people of the village but he finds the news items he is given to cover pretty lame, until a quiet drink at the local Inn leads him on an investigation that he can finally sink his teeth into. Karl learns that over the past two decades pensioners from the local nursing homes have mysteriously disappeared overnight, never to be seen of heard from again. As he delves deeper into the mystery, it becomes apparent that the locals know far more than they are saying and hold an age old secret. What is their secret and where are the missing people?
