Get ready for Scary Mysteries, Twisted Two’s#1 The West Memphis 3In 1993, three young boys were reported missing in West Arkansas. Steve Branch, Michael Moore and Christopher Byers were eight-year-old second graders playing together on the afternoon of May 5th when they suddenly vanished. Neighbors saw the boys playing together at 6:30 PM before Terry Hobbs, Steve's stepfather called them to come home. By 7, the children were reported missing by Christopher's adoptive father, John Byers. An initial search was done that night, but it was limited and It wasn't until the next morning when a thorough police search commenced. Most of West Memphis was covered with the focus on Robin Hood Hills, the area where the boys were last seen. By that afternoon, a young officer spotted a black shoe near a creek, the area was searched further and that’s when they found the lifeless bodies of the three boys.They had been stripped naked and hogtied using their own shoelaces. Their clothes were later found twisted on branches that had been put in the creek in an effort to keep them out of sight. The children suffered multiple beating and stabbings and Christophers sexual organs were mutilated. After an autopsy, it was concluded Christopher died from multiple injuries while Moore and Branch died from injuries and drowning. #2 Fort George – The CitadelLush, green and beautiful, the Halifax Citadel, also known as Fort George, is stunning during the daytime. But what it hides behind its lush exterior is a creepy and haunted past.The star-shaped fort was first created in 1749 then later reconstructed several times until it reached its current structure in 1856. The location itself has been home to four different forts constructed on the land. Even though the fort never saw combat, it was a highly strategic area which helped protect the Royal Navy Dockyard along with the Halifax Fort. It’s widley Considered as one of the most haunted places in Canada. Fort George's Citadel supposedly houses hundreds of ghosts that have piled on over its 300 years of existence. Those who have explored the Fort report of ghostly apparitions and the stories of those who have experienced them are quite chilling. SCARY MYSTERIES - TWISTED TWO's: Crew of the Sara Joe and The Family MurdersTales of hauntings, murder and scary mysteries, Every week Twisted Two's dives into a pair of uniquely terrifying true stories that are worthy of a more in depth look.This week we look at the mysterious disappearance and reappearance of the ill-fated Sara Joe and the heinous and disturbing killings of a group dubbed "The Family." #1 Crew of The Sara JoeOn February 11, 1979 on the small island of Nahiku off the coast of Maui, Five friends who worked as construction workers decided to take a break for the day and go fishing. They were 27 year old Scott Moorman who had just got divorced and decided to make his dream of settling in Hawaii come true. 38 year old Benjamin Kalama worked as a tile setter, Peter Hanchett was 31 and a plumber, 26 year old Patrick Woessner was the carpenter in the group and Ralph Malaiakini who was 27, was a trucker. The skies were blue and the seas were calm when the five men borrowed the 17-foot and 85 horsepower Boston Whaler named the " Sarah Joe", from Ralph's twin brother. They packed a small cooler to store their catch, brought snacks and headed out. The boat left from the small town of Hana, and with the beautiful skies in plain sight none of them bothered to check the local weather reports and it was this seemingly small oversight, that would prove costly to the team.A major low-pressure system was brewing nearby and hit the town of Hana causing heavy flooding and gale-force winds just hours after the men left. It was so fierce people dubbed it as one of the worst the region had seen in over 50 years. Caught In the middle of this storm was the Sarah Joe. Some of the larger fishing ships barely made it back to shore as they battled 40-foot swells out in the open ocean. #2 The Family Murders Known as Australia's murder capital, Adelaide doesn't necessarily have a higher number of murders compared to Sydney, but it does win out for the brutality and perplexing cases emerging from it. One of these strange cases is dubbed as the "The Family Murders." The term, "Family" was given to this group of unidentified men believed to be involved in the kidnapping, sexual abuse, torture and brutal murders of teenage boys and young men around the 1970s and 80s. On June 5, 1983, 15 year old Richard Kelvin was abducted just a short distance away from his home. He was the son of popular Channel 9’s News anchor, Rob Kelvin, and was last seen sporting a Channel 9 shirt, jeans and white sneakers. 5 weeks later on July 24 his body was found. He was still fully clothed in the same garments he disappeared in and lying in a fetal position. After examination, it was discovered he had died from massive blood loss due to anal injury. Various other marks and brusies were also found on his head and body and His blood tested positive for strong hypnotic drugs like Noctec and Mandrax. Since Mandrax was a heavily regulated prescription drug, police used it to trace possible suspects and Bevan Spencer von Einem's name came up. In 1981 at the age of 21 - After serving in the Israeli Navy, he heading out to South America to make his dream become a reality. Along the way, he met some new friends, Marcus Stamm from Switzerland; Kevin Gale, an American photographer; and Karl Ruprechter, an Austrian who claimed to be a geologist in search of an indigenous tribe and that he knew how to get them into the jungle.4. Debbie KileyIt was October 1982; Debbie Kiley was a 26-year old sailor who went out to sail with four other friends on a routine trip from Maine to Florida. From the onset, Debbie noticed there was something wrong. The skipper was lazy, two men on the boat kept bickering and the boat, a 58-foot sailing yacht called the Trashman wasn't properly maintained. They made a stopover in Annapolis, Maryland and It was here on their next leg when they were caught in a fierce storm. The boat was tossed in strong 60-knot winds and huge 40-50 feet swells. They barely had time to let the coast guard know they were having trouble let alone inflate a life raft when the yacht sank in open waters.3. Joe Simpson & Simon YatesFor Joe Simpson and Simon Yates, the mountains were home. The two young friends were in Peru in 1985, climbing the remote Siula Grande. Simpson was 25 years old and Yates was 21 at that time. The two reached the summit two days after leaving base camp. But they say getting up is always easier then coming down. The next day while decending, Simpson slipped and fell. The impact was so severe he immediately knew he broke his leg and by then he thought he was as good as dead. Being a climber, he knew it would be near impossible to find help and be rescued up in the mountains. 2. Jan BaalsrudPart of the Norwegian resistance, Jan Baalsrud was trained by the British in Special Operations, to assist in helping free his country. On March 24, 1943, Jan, with 10 other comrades, sailed aboard a 75-foot fishing vessel named the Brattholm on a mission to destroy a German air control tower. The group was given the name of a storeowner to contact but what they didn't know was that their real contact had died and the replacement was someone whose sympathies were with the Germans. Soon after landing, the Germans ambushed the Brattholm. 1. Jose Salvador AlvarengaJose Alvarenga was a fisherman last seen sailing with another fisherman named Ezequiel Cordoba on November 18, 2012. Jose had meant to go with his usual partner, out off the coast of Mexico, but he cancelled at the last minute. Aboard the 25-foot boat, the men managed to capture their fill of fish, but that’s when their luck ran out. After being hit by a storm, they were blown off course. Jose radioed for help just before all electronics stopped functioning - soon after that their engine died as well. As the storm grew stronger, they were forced to dump their catch in desperate attempt to stabilize the boat. Get ready for Scary Mysteries, Twisted Two’s#1 Dr. Harold ShipmanHarold Shipman was an esteemed doctor who graduated from Leeds School of Medicine in England. He began his practice in the 70s, working as a general practitioner and became a well respected member of society. But in 1998 he was arrested - and is speculated of killing more than 200 of his patients. Born in 1946, Harold was the middle child growing up and the object of focus for his domineering mother, Vera. Over the years she would gradually instill in him a sense of superiority and that he was special and better than everybody else. This greatly affected Harold and showed in his relationships as an adolescent and adult. His mother later on died from terminal lung cancer but while taking care of her, he was fascinated by the effects morphine had on her while she was suffering. As a general practitioner, he showed great dedication to his patients. But that was a façade because behind closed doors, he was more evil then anyone could imagine. It was the local mortician that first noticed that many of his patients died in the same position of sitting up right. The undertaker approached Shipman about this and the doctor assured him that it was nothing to worry about. The Cash for Kids Scandal The Cash for Kids Scandal is one of the most notorious political and bribery scandals ever uncovered in the US justice system.The story came to light in 2008 and centers around two Pennsylvania judges, Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan, who sentenced thousands of juveniles with mundane crimes into a for profit jail. In exchange, the two men received more than $2.6 million in kickbacks from the owners and creators of the facilities. The crimes committed are nearly commonplace. One 14-year old created a fake and humorous Myspace page of her school's vice principal. Another student who was12-years old, was put in juvenile detention for cursing at another student's mother and yet another was put in jail when his parents unknowingly bought a stolen scooter and gave it to him. Countless juveniles suffered the same unfair judgment, particularly from Judge Chavarella so he could feed more children into the for profit detention centers. Many of the young victims and their families were often persuaded and others coerced to head to court and waive their right to counsel. Without having any chance to defend themselves, they would be pronounced guilty and sentenced to juvenile detention for months at a time or even years. For some, it started them down the path of being in and out of the system and ruined many children’s lives forever.So there were a two of the most killer and scandelous stories around. It was also an era filled with some of the most notorious and terrifying serial killers to ever exist. These are 4 infamous and chilling killers of the 1980s. 4. Sunset Strip KillersA former Naval Intelligence officer's son, Doug Clark moved all over the world while growing up. After graduating from Culver Military Academy, Clark enlisted in the Air Force but was discharged as it was clear his life was headed somewhere else. He ended up in Los Angeles, moving from job to job often being fired due to his violent temper. In his downtime he would hang out at one of his favorite clubs, Little Nashville. It was a seedy pub that occasionaly played live music and the plce where he met his partner in crime, Carol. Carol M. Bundy grew up with two alcoholic parents. At a young age, her mother died and by 11, her father was sexually abusing her on a regular basis. At 17, she married then later on divorced her first husband who was 40 years her senior. At 37, she became infatuated with her apartment block manager and part time singer, Jack Murray, and would frequent the Little Nashville bar to watch him play. 3. Larry EylerBorn in Indiana in1952 to a dysfunctional household, Larry Eyler grew up suffering abuse from his parents and stepfathers. The abuse was so horrific that the details have been prevented from being released and the state sought to remove him and have him live with relatives instead. As he grew older, Larry joined a monastery but left and ended up working low-paying odd jobs, including one as a house painter. The first time, his name signaled on police radar was when he stabbed an ex-marine who was hitchhiking in town. This marine managed to get away and testified against Eyler. He was paid $2500 for his trouble and Eyler wasn't prosecuted. But two years after this incident, a good amount of bodies began to surface. The first was found on March 22, 1982. Jay Reynolds body was brutally stabbed outside of Lexington, Kentucky. Then on October 3rd, 14-year old Delvoyd Baker's body was discovered 2. Andrei ChikatiloKnown as the "Butcher of Rostov," it's no surprise Andrei Chikatilo is considered one of the most prolific and violent killers of the 1980s. Andrei grew up in famine poor Russia. While he was a diligent student, he lacked social skills and had trouble forming relationships with women because he was impotent. After failing to enter Moscow State University, he went into National Service before becoming a telephone engineer. 1. Jose Rodriguez VegaJose Rodriguez Vega was a serial killer from Santander, Spain. Nicknamed as " El Mataviejas" which translates to (The Old Lady Killer), he killed more than 16 women ages from 60 to 93 and had previously served a sentence for raping 5 younger women. Vega grew up in a highly dysfunctional family. It's suspected his grandfather killed his grandmother- and his dad and brother are alcoholics. Meanwhile, his mother was a dominant and aggressive woman prone to violence. By the time Vega was 8, a 50-year old woman had sexually abused him and after this occurance he would masturbate consistently. At this time, he also noticed he was sexually attracted to So there were 4 INFAMOUS & CHILLING KILLERS OF THE 1980'sMurder knows no bounds. The murders were labeled as such because each of the girls' first and last name started with the same letter. In the Rochester case, it was even more sinister because all the victims were under the age of 10. They were abducted, raped and strangled and Not only were the initials of their first and last names the same, they were also found dumped in a town that started with the same initial too. • Carmen Colon was abducted on November 16, 1971 and found dead two days later in a town called Churchville. #2 The Girl in the BoxThe story of Colleen Stan is almost so unbelievable that even today many still wonder how she survived the ordeal. Colleen was only 20-years old in 1977, when she decided to attend a friend's birthday party in Northern California. She was living in Eugene, Oregon and would have to travel, an experienced hitchhiker, she let two cars pass before deciding to take a ride from Cameron and Janice Hooker. Colleen felt confident while climbing into the van because Cameron's wife was there along with their newborn. On the way, they stopped at a gas station where Colleen used the bathroom. Deep down, a small voice told her to run away but she ignored her intuition and climbed back into the vehicle. The moment they found themselves on an isolated stretch, Cameron pulled over and put a knife to the young girls throat. He then proceeded to lock her head in a wooden box he had created which was designed to cut off light, sound and even fresh air from entering. Apparently, the husband and wife had an agreement prior to the abduction. Cameron could abduct a sex slave which he would keep at home and act out his fetish for sexual bondage on. Up until then, it was Janice that had to endure this and she couldn’t take it any longer. So there were a two of the most unbelievable stories around. The Story of ZanaKnown as the wild woman, Zana was found and captured by local hunters as they explored the dense forests of the Ochamchir region of Georgia in Russia. The year was 1850 and The hunters were scavenging the forests for whatever they could find when they saw something that looked like half ape and half woman. Much of her body, including her torso, legs, arms and fingers were massive and covered in thick auburn hair. Despite being ferocious and violent, the hunters captured her and took her back to the nearby village of T'khina where she was given to a nobleman, Edgi Genaba. She was given the name Zana. 4. The Enfield Horror Considered one of the most bizarre creatures ever to be reported, The Enfield Horror is not your run of the mill creature. The horror started in 1973, in the small town of Enfield, Illinois. Around 9 PM on April 25, a young boy named Greg Garrett was in his backyard playing when suddenly he started screaming and running towards his parents in the living room. He told them a monster had stomped on his feet, tearing open his shoes with its claws. Police were called but they could find any signs of any creature. Then about a half an hour later, Henry McDaniel, Garrett's neighbor, found his children in a panic because they were hearing loud scratching noises on the front door. 3. The Converse Wolf MonsterWerewolves are one of the most famous cryptid creatures out there and One reported case of the man-beast happened in Converse, Texas. The story of the huge werewolf-creature first began during the 1800s but the most recent and commonly retold one happened in the 1960s.A rancher lived on a piece of land with his son and while the father was a rugged man who preferred the pioneer's way of living, his son was more bookish and timid. In a bid to "make a man" out of him, he forced him to go out into the woods alone to hunt and kill his first deer. While reluctant, the couldn't say no and set off. 2. The Fouke MonsterDubbed as The Southern Sasquatch, the Fouke Monster is a mythical beast often sighted around the town of Fouke in Miller County, Arkansas. It’s Described as a large hominid-like creature that’s covered in long, black hair. It stands 7 feet tall and weighs somewhere between 200-300 pounds. according to witnesses ,It’s is said to bear a chest width of 3 feet or more. When it moves it almost looks as if it’s galloping and it’s arms swing back and forth just like a monkey. It has bright red eyes and smelles terrible, like a skunk or wet dog. Even more, footprints measuring 17 inches and having only three toes are attributed to the monster. Claw marks and various other tracks have also been discovered in the area that it roams. 1. Man Sees BigfootReports of Bigfoot have been around for a long time, some believe it all to be a hoax and others say there’s no doubt they exist. The following is a 911 call capturing a terrified resident on the Kitsap, Peninsula in Washington State. The call was recorded in 1990 when a man describes seeing a large creature on his yard and the authenticity in his voice is hard to deny. Have a listen and decide for yourself. Listening to the call makes you wonder what it was he saw. When the police did arrive, they could find no sign of anything being there.
