Tales of crashed UFOS; ghost apparitions; marauding monsters; and everything in between – you name it, they’re all here. But perhaps the most unnerving of all these mysteries are the true stories of crimes and deaths that even up to now, the secrets can’t still be explained. Here are 5 eerie unsolved mysteries from the Lone Star State.5. The Murders at Orchard ApartmentIn 1979, people from around the state and the country flock towards Houston to take part of its oil boom. Most of these newcomers were young people who had been looking to build their fortune in the bustling Bayou City. However, it didn’t take long before their dreams turn to nightmare. In July of that same year, a co-worker of Alys Rankin went to pick her up from her Orchard Apartment home in southwest Houston. Bob Smith, Rankin’s co-worker, found the door to the apartment slightly open.4. The Servant Girl AnnihilatorThe Servant Girl Annihilator committed a string of murders in Austin, Texas between 1884 and 1885. Police tied eight known victims to the unknown perpetrator whose modus operandi was to enter women’s homes and knock them unconscious. The suspect would then drag the victims outside of their homes and then proceed to murder them outdoors using an ax.3. The Amber Hagerman CaseOne of the most disturbing murder cases to ever come from Texas pertains to the kidnapping and eventual murder of Amber Hagerman. It gained worldwide attention that it even prompted officials to create an alert system intended for missing persons aptly called Amber Alert. It all started on January 13, 1996 when the 9-year-old was seen biking along the neighbourhood streets. A neighbour saw someone in a pickup truck pull up and snatch Amber. The little girl screamed, which impelled Jim Kevil, the neighbour, to call the police.2. The Brutal Murder of Megan CurlThe murder of Megan Curl is thought to be one of the most gruesome crimes ever committed in the Lone Star State simply because of its sheer brutality. In the early morning of March 26, 2000, members of the Lufkin Fire Department arrived to put out a fire at Fox Run Apartments. Right after the firefighters extinguished the fire, they recovered the body of the 26-year-old woman. 1. The Austin Yogurt Shop Quadruple MurderDecember 6th of 1991, an Austin police officer on patrol saw fire coming from I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt! – a local yogurt shop. Calls were made and the fire was put out. However, things went to a horrifying turn when fire and police investigators found charred bodies of four young girls, with ages between 13 and 17. Amy Ayers, Jennifer Harbison, her sister Sarah, and Eliza Thomas, were found naked, bound, and gagged with their own clothing.Support the show Learn more about your ad choices. Every week Twisted Two's dives into a pair of uniquely terrifying stories that are worthy of a more in-depth look. For this week, we focus on the arrest of the notorious Potomac River Rapist and the mysterious disappearance and death of virtuoso coder, Jerold Haas. Get ready for Scary Mysteries, Twisted Two’s.Potomac River ArrestChristine Mirzayan was a 29-year old student intern at the National Academy of Sciences at Georgetown, Washington D.C. On August 1, 1998, she attended a cookout and was walking home from the event when she was viciously attacked. Christine was pulled into a wooded area, viciously raped, then beaten to death using a 73-pound rock. Although a man had heard Christine scream and called back to ask if she was okay, he never heard back so he continued on. The following day, Christine’s body was found. Another person later came forward offering a description of the man they saw running from the woods after hearing the scream. This description was enough to create a composite sketch of the suspect. During the investigation, it was clear Christine wasn’t the first victim. Before her, 9 other women in the Maryland and D.C. area had also been viciously attacked and raped. This included an 18-year old babysitter as well as a mother whose infant child was with her during the assault. Many of the victims were attacked inside their homes and seven of the nine were all linked using DNA. Only Christine Mirzayan was murdered.Jerold HaasJerold Haas was described as being on the “brink of riches” as his company, Tessr, gained buzz for using blockchain technology to help streamline data sharing for higher education. But instead of riches, Jerold Haas’ skeletal remains were found on November 3, 2018, inside a forest just north of Clarksville, Ohio. The virtuoso coder was first reported missing on September 17, seven weeks before his body turned up. Haas lived in Columbus, Ohio but was last seen at a gas station, just one county over from where his remains were discovered.Police identified the body using the wallet found in his pants. They also later compared his dental records. There were no signs of foul play - no weapons or anything that might lead investigators to believe he was murdered. However, they did note Haas’ backpack was nowhere in sight. It was a black backpack containing many of the things he used for business, including two laptops, three smartphones, a tablet, and various USB sticks and cables.Support the show Learn more about your ad choices. Every week Twisted Two's dives into a pair of uniquely terrifying stories that are worthy of a more in-depth look. For this week, we focus on the brutal and deranged Japanese killer, Tsutomu Miyazaki, also known as the “Otaku Killer” and the case of the missing Ann Marie Burr, and her possible ties with one of America’s most notorious killers. Get ready for Scary Mysteries, Twisted Two’s.Tsutomu Miyazaki People know him now as the “Otaku Killer” because of his love for manga and video games. Tsutomu Miyazaki once lived in Itsukaichi, Tokyo where his father ran a successful local newspaper. Growing up, Tsutomu was bullied because he suffered a deformity in his hand - his wrist joint was missing so his hand was directly attached to his wrist. The incessant bullying caused him to be a loner. From a young age, his family said he always exhibited odd behavior. It didn’t help his parents never listened to his problems and his younger sisters rejected him as a brother. The only person he felt close to was his grandfather. But when his grandfather died in May 1988, it plunged him further into depression. According to him, after his grandfather died, he partially ate his ashes in an effort to “retain something from him.” Ann Marie Burr - Ted Bundy’s First VictimThe name Ted Bundy is a familiar one. Many know of his exploits, his crimes, and his “charming” personality. Bundy has been depicted in television shows, talked about in countless articles and documentaries, and his life has been subjected to the film treatment. But do we really know Ted Bundy and his crimes completely? It’s widely accepted among law enforcement officials and crime geeks that Bundy killed his first victim in January 1974, at 27 years old. The first known victim tied to Bundy is 21-year old, Lynda Ann Healy.Healy disappeared in the middle of the night inside her dorm room apartment, space she shared with three other women. For police, the disappearance of the 21-year old college student inside her bedroom was perplexing. There were clues foul play was involved but very little evidence pointing to any suspect. It would be years later, in 1989, when Bundy would confess to abducting then killing her.Support the show Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

He said that the United States Government was activiely reverse-engineering an alien spacecraft in a mysterious facility called s_4 close to Groom Lake in Nevada. A Man Named “Bob”Born on January 26, 1959, Robert Scott Lazar grew up in Coral Gables, Florida. From Florida, the family moved to New York where Lazar got his first interest in science and engineering when he became neighbors with rocket designer named Eugene Gluhareff. From a young age, Lazar’s penchant for pyrotechnics and loud things that go boom were evident. His mother recalled being startled once after hearing a loud bang outside and discovered Bob had installed a rocket engine on his bike. An often-reprinted photo of young Bob in 1977 while he lived in Woodland Hills, California, shows him on that bike with a rocket engine by Gluhareff strapped on it. You can even find photos and videos of Lazar when he was younger testing his jet bike and later, showing off his jet car. In 1980, he married Carol Strong in California and the couple later moved to Los Alamos in Vegas. While there, Lazar set up his photo processing business. Around the same time, he worked on a limited contract job for Kirk-Mayer, one of the few smaller contractors who supplied personnel to the Los Alamos National Lab. The company only worked on supplying small-time personnel like fabricators, electronic technicians, and machinists. Since Lazar had some technical knowledge from studying at Pierce College, he was hired as an electronics tech by Kirk-Mayer. Several people who worked alongside him at the time described Bob as a “clever, fix-it guy.” He was regularly seen at work handling problems with computers and doing technical repairs to a point he was listed in the Los Alamos National Lab phonebook. His name showed up with the denotation “K/M” signifying he was employed by Kirk-Mayer.Support the show Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The next five cases feature animals too unusual to believe and yet, they did exist. These are 5 Scary Australian Creatures That Actually Exist. 5. Its teeth were sharp and recurved. It’s believed to have wrinkled and infolded enamel too. One unusual characteristic of the creature was the osteoderms or small bones embedded on its skin around the neck and snout. 3. For this week, the story focuses on the story of Herbert Schirmer and his unusual UFO encounter as well as the infamous top-secret government organization dubbed as Project Blue Book. These are your Twisted Two's.#1 Herbert SchirmerAt 22-years old, policeman Herbert Schirmer from Ashland, Nebraska experienced one of the most bizarre encounters of his life. The young police officer was on patrol on December 3, 1976. While driving his patrol car, he saw what looked to be a large truck with red lights flashing on the top. He had just finished checking things off on Highway 6 and was now on the intersection of highways 6 and 63 when he spotted the lights. Like any officer, he was curious what it was and headed over to take a closer look. He moved down to Highway 63. He came to a stop, then trailed his headlights down to the large “truck,” only, it wasn’t a truck at all. According to the officer, the red lights he saw was coming from what he described as “portholes” from a disc-shaped, metallic craft. #2 Project Blue BookThe infamous Project Blue Book had two goals. One was to figure out if UFOs were a threat to national security and two, to scientifically analyze any UFO-related data when they get a hold of it.First formed in 1952, it was the successor to previous government programs, Sign (1947) and Grudge (1949). These two programs also studied UFOs but to a lesser extent than Project Blue Book. It was June 24, 1947, when businessman and pilot, Kenneth Arnold was flying his small plane from Chehalis, Washington to Yakima, Washington. During his flight, he made a brief detour after finding out there was a reward for the discovery of a downed transport plane close to Mount Rainier. Once there, he tried searching for the plane for a bit, but with no luck, he decided to give up. Arnold flew eastward, heading to his destination in Yakima when he caught sight of a bright flashing light in the distance.Support the show Learn more about your ad choices.
