Derek Paravicini – Musical GeniusHe might have limited verbal skills but when it comes to playing the piano, Derek Paravicini can make it sing. Born blind, Derek is an autistic savant and musical prodigy who resides in London. He was born prematurely, at only 25 weeks old, together with a twin sister who didn’t survive. Because of his prematurity, he was placed in oxygen therapy at the neonatal intensive care unit. While it helped him, the oxygen overdose also caused his blindness and affected his developing brain. This resulted in various learning disabilities as he was growing up. 2. Wim Hof – IcemanKnown as the “Iceman,” Wim Hof defies the odds when he manages to run barefoot marathons around the Arctic Circle with only shorts on. His amazing feat of physical endurance is baffling and would no doubt kill others if they tried. 1. Veronica Seider – Super VisionVeronica Seider may be a dentist by day but she has one extremely unique characteristic that even superheroes might be jealous of, she has a super vision! In 1972, Veronica Seider was a student at the University of Stuttgart in West Germany when the school decided to do vision tests on its students. It was here they discovered Veronica had a rare and unique eyesight, she could see 20x better than the average person. This means she has telescopic eyes that allows her to see things clearly even if it’s relatively far away. While there, he admitted he already raped 6 boys. The following year, at 16, that increased into 13 boys. From there, Duncan continued on his path of rape and assault. At 17, he was arrested and charged as an adult for the rape of a 14-year old boy at gunpoint. He was sentenced to 20 years for torturing the boy while in captivity, something that would be seen in his later crimes as well. Daniel Camargo BarbosaKnown as “The Mangrove Monster,” Daniel Camargo Barbosa, was born to a rich family in the small town of Anolaima in the Colombian, Andes. Camargo’s father (who had a similar name to his son) was a local businessman. His mother died when he was two years old and his father remarried for a third time. From a young age, Camargo was already highly intelligent. He did well in school but his father didn’t care. Everytime the young child would reach out to his father, he would be told he was useless and put down. It was a place where abandoned and unwanted children gathered. For some, it was transitory, for others, it was the only place they could call home. But not all orphanages are manned by lovely and caring people. Some were institutions filled with abuse, horror, and death. These are 5 Evil and Infamous Orphanages. 5. St. John’s Orphanage, Australia Also called the Goulburn Boys Orphanage, St. John’s Orphanage was in operation in the city of Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia between Match 7, 1912 until 1978. The place was run by the Sisters of Mercy and the Catholic Church until it closed down. Made to accommodate at least 100 children, it first housed young boys between 5 to 16 years old. It wasn’t until the 70s when the place began accepting female orphans because of the declining number of young males.4. St. Joseph’s Catholic Orphanage, Vermont For a long time, St. Joseph’s Catholic Orphanage in Vermont served thousands of orphaned children from 1930 to 1970. But the facility, run by Catholic nuns and priests, became the subject of controversy in the early 1990s and again in 2018 when past abuses by the nuns and priests were uncovered. 3. National Soldiers Orphans’ Homestead, Gettysburg Created by Dr. John F. Bourns, the National Soldier’s Orphan’s Homestead stood on the Gettysburg Battlefield. It first opened in October 1866 and was built to accommodate the orphaned children of soldiers who died in the war. Particularly, it was a soldier, Sgt. Amos Humiston, who was found dead on the spot (where the building later stood) clutching a photo of his three small children that became the inspiration for Dr. Bourns to create the orphanage. 2. Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home, Ireland Approximately 796 infants and young children were found buried in a sewer pit, close to what was once Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Ireland in 2017. The home was open from 1925 to 1961 and was run by the Sisters of Bon Secours, a Roman Catholic order financed by the Irish Government. 1. Holy Family Orphanage, Michigan First built in 1915, the Holy Family Orphanage was a dream for many in the Marquette, Michigan area. At the time, the orphanage was built costing between $90,000 to 120,000 - an unheard sum of the time. It had classrooms, bathrooms on every floor and dormitories. The elder McCants approached the edge of the cliff looking for the rattlesnake that his son said was there. However, as he was looking, Gerald McCants suddenly shoved him from behind. This caused the elderly man to fall roughly 40 feet straight down into the cliff.3. UFO Above Plymouth County Last March 2020, an unusual footage was captured of what many think was a UFO flying over Plymouth County in Massachusetts. The video, was first shared by a YouTube channel with the username, Zeal. Eyewitneses say the object was above them and that it looked like a large helicopter.2. They lived in the small peaceful town of Massillon all their lives and have been together over 48 years. Everything seemed fine but in 1984, the couple’s troubles began. They returned home one day to find their home fully ransacked. All their belongings were left lying about everywhere, making a complete mess, but nothing was stolen. Since nothing was missing, the couple kept the incident to themselves and didn’t report it. Later that same year, the couple experienced a similar break-in. Again, nothing was stolen and they thought it was best to not report it. However, when it happened a third time on January 16, 1985, Bill Wacker decided to tell police.2. Corey Scherbey It was August 22, 2011 when Gladys Scherbey went ahead to check on her son, Corey Scherbey, in his home at Chilliwick, British Columbia, Canada. It was a routine visit. But there was something strange this time around. Despite repeated rings on the doorbell and several knocks, Corey never responded. Glady’s decided to let herself inside but what she found would haunt her forever. She found her son, Corey, on his knees, slumped over with his face pressed into the cushions. He was dead. Around the body, was a huge pool of black liquid believed to be blood. She turned over the body and was shocked she couldn’t even recognize her son’s face. She said the face was extremely pale and his eyelids were white. On the floor around the house, she also noticed bloody footprints. Even more, he seemed to be missing ears.
