Ep 240

All About Evil (2010) feat. Jesse Krempel

Episode | 110 min | Jul 26, 2023

Don't piss yourself while you stuff the corpses in the attic because we're having a gay old time discussing show business (the business of show) in Joshua Grannell's/Peaches Christ's 2010 horror comedy All About Evil. Joining us for the discussion is Jesse Krempel, the host of the Cult Cinema Circle podcast!

Join us as we revisit this campy gem that was very difficult to find until recently. We heap all of the praise on Natasha Lyonne's absolutely unhinged lead performance, while commending Grannell on his filmmaking craft.

Plus: Elvira out of drag, punny film titles, lots of Thomas Dekker worship, and wondering whether or not Trace knows the word "exorbitant."

Ep 239

Psycho (1960)

Episode | 153 min | Jul 19, 2023

After tackling its two sequels, we're finally crossing off a classic with Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960).

Turns out we have a ton to say in this supersized episode, which makes sense considering the film is technically masterful, features iconic sequences and boasts two stellar lead performances.

Plus: a 'pregnant' production history, Baters and momism, Gus Van Sant's 1998 shot for shot remake, and a variety of (queer) readings of Norman Bates.

Ep 238

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021) feat. Reyna Cervantes

Episode | 108 min | Jul 12, 2023

Be on the lookout for clues because we're headed back to Escape Room with Adam Robitel's sequel, Tournament of Champions (2021). With the help of returning guest Reyna Cervantes, we're discussing both the Theatrical, as well as the Extended Cut of the film (jump ahead to the ~1hr 10min mark to hear about the new beginning and end!)

Expect Minos-levels of conspiracy as we try to figure out the timeline and rationale for the two cuts.

Plus: our fave new characters and traps, retconning the original film's end, needing more Isabelle Fuhrman and James frain, and what we want in a possible third entry (and why it definitely *won't* be rated R)

Ep 237

Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) feat. The Boulet Bros.

Episode | 106 min | Jul 5, 2023

Don't be a miserable, ungrateful bitch because we're discussing James Wan's 2013 film Insidious: Chapter 2 in preparation for Patrick Wilson's upcoming sequel Insidious: The Red Door! Tagging in for the conversation are the hosts of Shudder's most watched series The Boulet Brothers' Dragula: Dracmorda and Swanthula Boulet!

Join us as we try to figure out why a horror film released in 2013 would repurpose the plot of Sleepaway Camp for a modern audience, while appreciating the camp factor of this fascinatingly wacky sequel. What makes sense? What doesn't? We try really hard to figure it out!

Plus: a dub job for the ages, baby stunts, cheating lesbian mamas, true San Francisco realness and some of the best embalming techniques you're likely to find in a horror film. It's gonna be a cisgustingly good time!

Micro Queers: Bad Girl Boogey (2022)

Bonus | 16 min | Jul 4, 2023

We're back with a fresh Micro Queers on Australian trans teen filmmaker Alice Maio Mackay's queer slasher film, Bad Girl Boogey (2022).

We would have liked more time with these characters (and maybe a longer runtime overall), as well as a stronger killer reveal, but the film's musicality, its DIY aesthetic, and the fact that Mackay has made an unapologetically queer film is worth celebrating.
