Two young soldiers are fighting in desperate guerrilla warfare but separated by over 160 years. A Frenchman serving in Napoleon’s 9th Regiment of Hussars finds himself fighting in Spain against guerrillas and the Spanish and British Armies, while a young American pilot in the 9th Cavalry flying his helicopter in an equally unpopular war in Vietnam. Both face the horrors of war and the consequences of battle, both physical and mental. Now recognised as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the ravages of war on the human mind was known from ancient times and had been variously labelled as "Nostalgia", "Soldier's Heart" or "Irritable Heart", “Shell Shock”, "War Neuroses", “Combat Stress Reaction (CSR), also known as ‘Battle Fatigue’, and finally as PTSD. A psychiatrist treating the Vietnam War Veteran discovers links to the past through hypnosis that he could never have imagined and what it would lead to in solving the problem of a ‘John Doe’ a war veteran who was thought to be beyond help and changing the doctor’s life in more ways than he could ever have thought possible.
