Chucky is an eighth-grade boy who has taken an interest in the Candlelight Kidnappings, a lesser-known part of Salem's early history. In one day, many people disappeared. But one of the victims, a boy named John Hezikiah, reveals a connection to a clandestine cult, who worships a ghost they call Mr. Candlemouth. Chucky's inquiry into the history of this event creates a phenomenon across the world as people treat Mr. Candlemouth as if he were another Bloody Mary. Rituals, stories, supposed sightings. And people are going missing. Is this all a hoax? Have people fallen for fanaticism? Are evil men using the legend as a scapegoat for their misdeeds? Or is there something more?
