IT WAS THE DEAD OF NIGHT as Lily and Ophelia began the hunt for the dead body of an unknown person Ophelia had found in the river side of the levee. River fog swirled around them like tendrils of evil devouring their feet and ankles as it tried enclosing them in its misty wet embrace. Fog coming off the Mississippi River, in the low lands of the river side of the levee, seemed to come alive after darkness crept into the thick wooded forest. Ophelia jerked to a stop…and there it was laying at her feet in the wet, soggy earth among the dense foliage of the river-bottom trees lay the bodies of a woman and a big colorful parrot. Both chills and sweat began running down Lily’s back as she stood staring at the two dead bodies. In all the times she had gone to the swimming hole to cool off, she had never seen a dead body anywhere near the path. Who would have left a dead body so close to the path leading to the swimming hole and who would have killed such a huge colorful parrot? Lily and Ophelia stood staring for quite a while before Lily bent down, fanned the misty fog away from the person’s head, pushed the body over onto its back and took a good look at the face. It was a woman dressed in bloomers and a gypsy blouse. Her hair was black as coal and she wore a floppy hat. Lily stood up, stared at her best friend and said…“Ophelia, I know who this is!” This book is full of mystery, adventure, comedy, suspense and ghosts
