1988 - France. Robbie Greene, 16, is on an enforced holiday in rural France, staying next to a large World War 1 military cemetery. Bored and with nothing to do, all he wants to do is go back home. Robbie doesn't believe in ghosts - especially ghosts of dead British soldiers. But the ones he encounters among the gravestones are real enough, and he is soon hurrying back to England in a bid to help a patrol of long-dead soldiers who disappeared on the Somme battlefield, trying to move on to their final destiny. For Robbie, time is fast running out if he is to help the men regain their honour and final peace. Because for the men, there is a fate awaiting them that is far worse than death.
