Sera, Ari, and their daughter May Piper have lived peacefully in Italy since May's birth until 471 days ago, when Sera went missing. Lost without her Mom, May is drawn to Sera's alma mater in the US, where she finds herself battling the ghosts of both her past and her mother's. While at first May enjoys her freedom at college, she is soon struck with a major trauma. With Sera missing and Ari overseas, May is left with only one confidante- and a mysterious one, at that. Dr. Franklin Thomas, May's academic advisor, is the one person who stands by May's side in her darkest hour. Still, she senses that there's something off about him- that there is something he isn't telling her. May had hoped to breeze through her first semester and attend her fair share of college parties, but her destiny has other ideas. Suddenly, the responsibility of balancing good and evil is left to May, a bipolar college freshman, and she must learn to trust her heart to guide her through the darkness and into the light.
