A dark fantasy novella of magic, love, loss, and addiction. Orphaned as an infant, Gayle Arganon grew up under the strict tutelage of her religious aunt Roxanne who kept Gayle closed away from society because her mother had been a witch. At sixteen, Gayle ran away and made her home in a shack by the river for many years, preferring solitude. A terrible drought ends when the rains finally come, and Gayle's life as a reclusive witch changes forever when she meets her brother Artax for the first time. Trapped in the body of a dog and unable to explain what happened to him, Artax is accompanied by a handsome witch named Xian, who tells Gayle that Artax recruited him to find her. The rain heralds a devastating magical flood that soon drives Gayle and Artax down the Waska river. Somehow, Gayle must return Artax to human form, uncover the cause of the flood and stop it, all while surviving its perils.
