Wounded at the battle of Charachaine, Prince Irvian is being taken back to Dromaire by his betrothed, Duchess Iolande. It is a dangerous journey for drastic changes have taken place in his homeland. His cousin, Count Rasmire has usurped the throne, married a witch and sent raiders into Eleyse to hunt down and kill him. The duchess is determined to see him on his throne in the capitol of Fastling and will do everything she can, including marrying him to accomplish that. However, that determination is costly, to her, to her family, and to Prince Irvian. Will they be successful?
