From the Inside Flap
Vermifuge came as a total shock to me. These are the kind of stories I havent seen for a long time. The writing is muscular and energetic, the style is bravura and dazzlingly diverse, and the range of plots is as wide as the night. I developed an appetite for these elegant poisoned candies, and found myself dipping into the selection again and again. There arent many authors who can surprise and delight the reader so consistently in the space of a single volume. Ms. Shannon should be welcomed into that exclusive pantheon with hurrahs and open arms. Christopher Fowler, author of Psychoville and Spanky A full range of marvelously entertaining tales by an exceptionally talented writer who knows how to work in every realm, from light-hearted to darkest of heart. Yvonne Navarro, author of Red Shadows and Thats Not My Name Theres dark poetry and dark humor aplenty in these Grand Guignol tales of grim retribution and Southern Gothic . . . but, as Lorelei Shannon herself might advise, just strip away the flesh and youll always find a warm heart beating. Peter Crowther, author of Escardy Gap and Longest Single Note Reading Lorelei Shannon I thought: here is talent. Both unsettling and sensitive, fear-inducing and courageous, these stories show an emerging gift. The dawn of a real writer. John Shirley, author of Black Butterflies and Darkness Divided Lorelei Shannon is on a perilous journey, one that has already taken her to some of the darkest places in the human soul. But apparently flinching is not in her nature. As a fellow traveler my heart goes out to her, for there are places ahead so dark that it may not be possible to visit them for long and remain in this world. She is either brave or reckless, depending on your point of view; probably both. So welcome to her dangerous career. For my part, I wish her strength and Godspeed. Dennis Etchison, author of Death Artist and Double Edge
