Becca Engels hides in New York behind the curtain of a predicable and boring postdoctoral researcher life built up to conceal a dark secret, but that safe and discreet facade is in danger in the moment she receives a phone call from a law firm indicating she has inherited an enormous fortune from a mother she cannot remember. Becca will travel to Scotland together with her best friend to take possession of her inheritance, but what she conceived as a mere formality turns out to be something much more complicated when several assassination attempts start to take place. At the same time, a father she has never known starts sending her some manuscripts that seem to tell the story of Lucifer written by his own hand and that will change Becca profoundly risking the existence of the world as we know it. Becca will have to dive in her family’s history, a history as old as the world itself, and that will take her from Sumer to the second world war Germany, from Egypt to medieval England and the American colonies, all to unravel the mystery of her own identity. Through the voices of others, Becca will understand that her family hide secrets much bigger than hers and that there are lies you cannot escape from, especially those coming from heaven.
