Stregha Madonna Oriente, The Lady Of The East, A Good Witch

Madonna Oriente was a stregha, or witch who lived in the countryside surrounding Milan in northern Italy circa 1384. She received her powers directly from the Diana, Goddess of the Moon, and had the ability to transform her body and take the form of a cat, rabbit or a great owl. Her coven met every twenty eight days on the night of the full moon and their ritual cerimonies were protected by the Grigori, or Watchers who were winged spirits resembling very large men. She was also presided over the Benandanti, "Good Walkers" and, in the form of a cat, she led them in their out of body battles against malevolent witches menacing their crops and communities.
