About the Author

Jane Gray was brought up by her Romany grandfather and Gauja grandmother, their bitti chai, the youngest child of a family of ten. Her grandfather instilled in her a pride in their heritage and culture, their respect for traditional values, loyalty and family ties. Many of the Romany characters in The Bitti Chai are inspired either by family or friends.
