Harold Halbmann, Strap of Nevada, rules over the secret immortal community of Nevada, the Vampire State. His wife, Cindy, whom he turned to save her, operates a small private investigation service. One of the investigations uncovers a link between a Las Vegas pimp and David Duval, the owner of Club Blood in Reno. Harold orders Duval to stop killing and robbing mortals in his nightclubs and to quit raiding Las Vegas high schools and colleges for women. Duval pretends to comply, but actually lays a plan to accuse Halbmann of treason against the king of all vampires, replace Harold as Satrap, and then overthrow the monarch himself. Vampire hunters from the Order of the Risen Sun, led by Richard Washburn, decide to come to Las Vegas to clean out its vampires; they trick a naIve girl, Judi Kaufmann, her brother, and a number of others into helping rid Sin City of its Satanic denizens. When a couple of vampires are staked, Harold realizes the danger. Harold leads a rebellion, seeking the crown for himself, but right at the critical moment, Cindy gives birth to their daughter. Will Harold reform vampire society? Or will he die in battle and all of Harold's family and friends have to go into hiding for centuries?
