I was perfectly happy to exist as a Detective First, sweeping up the detritus and the flotsam of the underbelly of Denver. True, I drank too much, hated everybody, almost, but I was a damned good cop on the job. Then, I found a murder that did not exist. Then another. It took me to places I have never considered.
