Zombies escape from an underground cavern after an ammunitions bunker explosion on October 16,2012. The zombies soon begin attacking the local population, the state police and even a TV cameraman. The small town of Doyline, Louisiana is evacuated. A Louisiana Tech soccer star returns from a tournament to find her mother and brother missing and her neighborhood blocked by police. Some of the population had been exposed to zombie fluids and they were placed in quarantine until they either died from the zombie virus or were declared free of infection. The book follows Susan Fontenot's search for her mother and brother and encounters with the zombies.
