Anna and Roland are not friends. They meet on a long haul flight from Atlanta to London and are seatmates until their plane breaks into pieces over the Atlantic Ocean. They are the only survivors. A passing cruise ship rescues the pair, but soon their joy at being rescued turns to fear as both Roland and Anna find they were probably better off left to drown. They settle into a bond of mutual tolerance in an effort to find a way off the ship. Their path is littered with eccentric residents, strange creatures, miraculous objects and curious landscapes until they finally learn of the ship’s bizarre origins.
