The Mystery of the Tiger Cat, by Karla DeMaris, is a story about Linda, a twelve-year-old girl, who moves with her family into a large, old, and run-down house in an unfamiliar town. At first, Linda’s only problems are fitting in with her new and unfriendly peers, but when she begins to suspect that her house might be haunted by a ghostly cat, and that she might have some kind of special connection to the haunting, her problems spill over onto her relationship with her family. When Linda discovers that two kids from her neighborhood might have some knowledge about the strange things going on, she convinces them to help her solve the mystery. As she learns about some of her neighborhood’s history, she also learns about the difficulties that occur when people, including herself, wrongly judge others.
