Kaylee Crawford always preferred the company of animals to people. And that was before people started trying to chew her face off. Volunteering at her local shelter on a perfectly normal Saturday morning, Kaylee befriends a giant abandoned dog named Beast. A fortunate thing for her, as it turns out, because he saves Kaylee’s life when his former owner shows up and tries to eat her. Up and down the East Coast, something is turning people into monsters. Strong, hard to kill, and...hungry. As the world collapses around her, Kaylee will have to rely on her wits, snark, and her newfound four-legged friend to keep herself and her younger brother alive. The roads are blocked. The Infected are everywhere, and they’re not the only monsters cloaked in human form lurking out there. The only way out is up, but Kaylee only has a few flying lessons under her belt. And what goes up, must come down….
