About the Author

E. T. A. Hoffmann (1776–1822) was a composer, caricaturist, critic, and author. His work was hugely influential on writers such as Dostoevsky, Kafka, and Poe. Christopher Moncrieff has previously translated the work of Victor Hugo and Jean-Euphele Milce.
