The Kingdom of Dinorwic has heard nothing from the other kingdoms for seven months. At first, no one notices the silence. Then the tribal peoples stop coming for trade. The king and queen grow uneasy. Not that this concerns Eira Dulas. As a fourteen-year-old not-yet-enchantress with a passion for magical research and a tendency to disobey the rules, it could not pertain to her less. Until she accidentally interrupts an urgent meeting. Eira has no desire to take a month-long journey across the tribal lands to the Kingdom of Liewen, but it is either leaving or washing her school’s dishes for the month. So she embarks with her mentor, an enchanter, and another student. The travels go precisely to plan. The party meets with no one. But when they arrive in Liewen, the party senses a growing presence of evil in the once beautiful kingdom. With troubled hearts, they hasten for Dinorwic, praying they can warn their country in time. Forced on a perilous journey and burdened with magic too vast for anyone, Eira fights for hope and purpose amidst the gravest darkness known to the continent of Balad.
