The Downs was meant to be where the Immediate Survivors hoped to see out the pandemic after the horrors of the city. But a betrayal from someone they entrusted ended up with the survivors becoming captives of the so-called deathsquad. A ragtag militia of rapists, torturers and murderers exploiting the widespread societal collapse of law and order to indulge in acts of macabre barbarism. Imprisoned in the deathsquad HQ, the separated survivors aim to breakout.All the while the dead thing uprising has officially and completely conquered the country and world, but vague suggestions of a fightback in London led by the fragmented leftovers of an establishment class from the old world not yet ready to give up their privileged position teases the promise that the flailing Government of Prime Minister Black might just offer one last hope for the United Kingdom to emerge with a slither of civilisation intact.Utilising the travel bloodstreams of a dying country the Immediate Survivors give it their all on the empty motorways and quiet rural roads while encountering the remnants of other disillusioned survivors on their way to the capital city of London. But at the Welcome Stop service station on the M23 Motorway, the remaining Immediate Survivors come to an impasse. Where for some the best way to run is to stop running while stopping without running to others is unthinkable, especially given what price they all paid to get to where they were when others of their group were no more.The consequence of this impasse means the Immediate Survivors both as a group and individually face being changed beyond all recognition. Because when it becomes clear that just still being alive is no longer enough. It begs the question if the calamity they can no longer escape from will mean if anyone will be left alive to go on when all is said and done. And if so what mental state will they be in.
