Though terrifying in their own right, short stories featured in The Precipice are primarily an exploration of the human psyche as it is exposed to influences beyond any common sensibility. Taking notes from horror, science-fiction, and the combination of the two as it arises from the New Weird, The Precipice tells stories of people who are barely characters at all, and who have become entirely lost in the hellish situations they've found themselves in. In other words - The Precipice is weird and mysterious, and isn't afraid to leave things implied and hidden between the lines.
