Aleksander Sevik has lived in the shadows of others all his life. But after his grandfather dies, he agrees to let his government send him into space with other volunteers. Upon their arrival in the celestial heavens, their space station is sieged by demons, seperating Alek from his friends. In this alternate timeline, it is 1901, and Alek wonders why God was not in heaven. But the author uses Aleksander's inquisitive brain to raise important questions of divinity's relationship to humanity. Are men made and blessed by a divine overseer, or are they nothing more than beasts full of hubris?Stranded and alone, Aleksander witnesses self-proclaimed angels and mongrels war above Earth, questioning his own purpose amidst the turmoil. Would this be his time to rise from humanity's cruel core, or would he give into nihilism and remain in the shadows he found comfortable? With these things in his wandering mind, Alek too wanders the cosmos in search of the friends he has lost, but he might be too late, as even the heavens begin to fall.
