In a world of grownups and loss, a small child finds solace in the camaraderie of a wild wolf and a man named Wolf. Three-year-old Emma Stone, a guest at a wolf preserve, finds her very own wolf; It watches over her and escapes the wolf preserve to care for her when necessary. While participating in a five-day-workshop, Wolf Myers, another guest, entertains the child with ‘strange ways’—finding solace in the child’s pronouncements; the child ‘knows things’. His own life has been shattered by difficult circumstances. Working in a drunken stupor, Wolf has decided to end his own life at the cabin with booze and pills. Another guest learns of his intention and stops his suicide. He remembers little or nothing of the five days spent at the preserve. The players scatter only to be resurrected two years later in the middle of a winter storm that grounds Wolf’s plane; he is placed in Eden Kennedy’s home with no recollection of her from the preserve. She has rescued Emma from protective services in her state. A note pinned to the child’s coat speaks of a Wolf who will come and get her. Histories intersect with devastating outcomes. Wolves are known to be sentient creatures. What is the soul of a child worth?
