Harry and Felicia are on a road trip. He’s a writer, down on his luck. She the photographer assigned to him – and his lover. They’ve been hired by a national magazine to document charming small town diners all over America. They arrive in SweetBread, Louisiana on a sweltering day, but quickly come to find that there’s something very wrong with this small town. Everyone is emaciated. So thin they resemble concentration camp victims. It seems like no one ever eats, except for their obsessive appetite for one thing: garlic. And the townspeople all seem to be afraid of something, as if they’re waiting for the Devil. Harry and Felicia visit Big Mama’s Diner. At first glance the diner seems charming, but they notice that the townspeople don’t eat at the diner. They just watch in anticipation. Harry gobbles down the delicious food ravenously, while Felicia takes photographs of the inside. But as she looks at the old photos on the wall, she gets a glimpse of the truth behind this strange dark diner. Then they meet Big Mama herself and are forever changed.
