It’s one thing to be part of a group. It’s another thing to be leading the riot. Marlene came to the tearoom on a lark, as a reader. What Marlene learns is that reading is only a portion of what the tea room does. Rita knows who Marlene is and has chosen her as her successor. Now that Rita is gone, Marlene has to help the community find its way to work together rather than tear each other apart. She is a guide, a guard, and a target. Marlene is having her own problems. She’s made a bad bargain with a demon. She’s left trying to lead when she needs leadership herself, and teach things she doesn’t yet quite know. And she’s met two men she likes, who have no real idea what to do with a psychic. It’s not like they can just show up with roses in hand. So, what’s a girl to do, when she glimpses the world in reflection?
