James Krause is an aging farmer in Iowa. While searching for a lost cow he encounters a vicious creature that attacks him. He shoots it and thinks he has killed it but that's where his problems begin. A tangle of bizarre plants start to grow where the monster was shot; they grow over ten feet tall and can't be cut down. Animals, and then people, begin to disappear into the thick brambles. James suspects that there is something sinister growing in the heart of the weed patch. The local police think he is crazy and he is on his own to find a way to stop the plants from spawning their evil offspring.
