In The Wolves of Porterville, Police Detective Sergeant Magnum Schultz gets involved in a high speed pursuit where she chases and captures three bank robbers. One escapes who is a serial rapist and must be recaptured before he escalates to murder. Another is a half-blood Inuit from the Yukon who has brought with him some occult powers inherited from his shamanic mother, including an yellow-eyed wolf entity. But Magnum’s got personal problems when her husband decides he wants to divorce her for a co-ed who has just become a victim of the serial rapist. Then Magnum’s nemesis, Bounty Hunter George Rooney, flips his vehicle upside down while transporting a felon from Montana. When his Bronco bursts into flames, it is up to Magnum and her 15 year old daughter to pull him from the wreckage. Rooney’s prisoner, however, has evaporated, and Rooney swears that the accident occurred when he caught sight of a wolf standing ahead of him on the roadway; wolves have not been seen in the region for decades.Unconventionally, Magnum befriends the Inuit bank robber, who proves to have some further inherited gifts from his Indigenous mother like extra sensory perception and telekinesis. In fact, Magnum begins to have a few eerie experiences of her own: Indian artifact knives that disappear and reappear at auspicious moments and a glamorous, petite pole dancer who inexplicably exhibits the might of a buffalo to save them both from the bowels of an abandoned root cellar.
