A. J. Goodblood, a writer of the supernatural and ghost stories, leases an island off the coast of Maine known as Gnarled Pines to gather grist and inspiration for his new book about its macabre history. Where better to write than in the atmosphere of the actual blood-soaked ground—the epicenter of the mass slaughter of a troupe of Broadway personalities who had come to celebrate the 4th the July, 1929, only to find their souls imprisoned on the island by dark, powerful forces. The victims of the massacre appear to Goodblood and appeal for help in releasing them from their island Hell.
