This is Cait's story, the ugly duckling sister who finds her power in the dark ages.Synopsis:  The prologue is a bit dark, but sets the scene for the birth of a vampire, Bloodletter, who plays a conflicted emotional role in the manuscript.  Chapter one takes us to the present where Dr. Cait McKenna, an ethnobotonist, is the timid protagonist who is desperately searching to find her place in the world and claim her feminine power.  Mistaken for her beautiful adopted sister Anna, she is kidnapped and taken back in time to a castle in old world Scotland.  Anna was conceived at the moment Bloodletter, her father became a vampire.  Anna's mother is Black Annis, a banshee with the gift of glamour.  Cait gains strength and confidence in the old world and learns that she comes from a powerful bloodline of witches.  Her grandmother teaches Cait what it means to be a feminine force to contend with, a witch.  She uses her legacies to save her narcissistic sister Anna from her ancient vampire father, the once notorious Highlander named Bloodletter, and the vengeful god of the Underworld, Arawn.   Druid Connor MacDonald is a thirty-something hunkish lawyer who owes an ancestral debt to the McKenna clan and must redeem his family name by traveling back in time to rescue Cait.  He doesn't believe it can be done, so his encounter with spellmaster Berkano the witch does not threaten him.  Connor relentlessly pursues Cait through time and tribulations, and helps her lose her virginity and her fear of love and intimacy by initiating her in the sacred rite of “Maiden’s Release.” There are many magical keys, rites and rituals, herbs that heal, and in the end, hearts that were once closed to love open.
