The Coming Race is a classic of both Science Fiction and Esotericism, written by Edward Bulwer Lytton, a somewhat mysterious man, friend of Dumas and Eliphas Levi, who wrote books of the caliber of the great classic "Zanoni."In the Coming Race, the narrator enters an underground world, populated by a race similar to humans, although slightly different in its evolution. This technologically advanced race has discovered "Vril", a powerful source of energy —the energy of the universe— capable of destroying entire cities with a single impact, or of healing the body and extending life.Written in 1870, Bulwer describes with great accuracy cities with electric lightning (powered by vril) and large machinery operated by robots; rooms with ambient music; personal air transport, and even libraries stored on metal plates (computer disks). The impact of this novel at the time was profound, but 150 years later we continue to question: Was Lytton able to see the future somehow, since his technological descriptions are so accurate? Or, as even the Nazis investigated at the time, was Lytton really contacted by this race, and his book was nothing more than a warning to humanity? Someday we will find out. Maybe sooner than we expect...
