The outbreak that started with pets and quickly spread to humans is moving with frightening speed across the landscape. Flesh eating ghouls are gathering in numbers, acting with collective intelligence to spread the virusite and leave mankind fighting for survival. The military forces, under the ruthless command of Major Carolyn Brooks, struggle to contain the outbreak at its epicenter, unaware of the major’s willingness to commit the most unspeakable betrayals in her pursuit for power. But someone or something continues to undermine the major’s quest for control. When the strongholds of the uninfected begin to topple and fall into fiery ruin, the military breaks into rogue factions, cut off from command and intent on self-preservation. Trapped in the growing red zone where everyone is presumed to be infected, Dave and Pam find a temporary hiding place for their family in the middle of nowhere. With the fates working against them, they soon discover one of the splintered factions is dangerously close to their hiding place. Worse yet, Major Brooks may be on her way to assuming command. With few choices left, the family devises a risky plan to escape the tightening noose around their necks and continue their frantic race to reunite with family on the West Coast.
