Dennis Haggerty and Rodney Darnell, two New York University college students, set off on an expedition to Dennis's girlfriend's house for the holidays, when an accident, obstructing Interstate 84, sends the young men on a detour through New England's rural back roads. In the damp, misty autumn dusk, the boys soon lose their bearings. A slight miscalculation transports them into the realm of the macabre. It isn't until they fail to arrive at their destination hours later that the family begins to worry, but by this time it may be too late to save the young men.
