‘Dead Eyes’: Ambitious First-Person Horror Gets Lost in the Woods [SXSW 2026 Review]
‘Dead Eyes’ experiments with first-person horror and surreal imagery, but the ambitious debut never delivers the goods. Our SXSW review:
They tell you to stop and smell the roses. You should take a good look at them, too, because you never know when your world is going to go dark, and darker than you can imagine. Ray Gerard learns that he is going blind, but when everything goes black he discovers that he has a new kind of vision, which enables him to see a shadow world where demons, angels, and monsters walk amongst us unseen, a world of moldering hags and impossibly gorgeous women. He assembles a team of beautiful, shapely ladies and powerful talismans to help him in his fight against the shadow world, culminating in a battle against the fiery demons of hell. Ray and his harem learn that being blind is not the problem—it’s seeing things that would rather remain unseen.
