THE SMITH’S LIVES ARE ABOUT TO CHANGE FOREVERDavid Smith has just been offered a job opportunity in Antarctica. He feels that this is the perfect opportunity for him to make his family financially secure. Both David and his wife Sue are esteemed scientists, but they have found it difficult to find suitable work for some time. They have a five-year-old daughter called Becky which they both love very much. While Sue feels contented with life, the same cannot be said for David. David feels somewhat of a failure. He feels that he hasn’t been able to provide for his family adequately. Therefore, he treasures the job opportunity that he has been presented with. An intergovernmental organisation has given him the opportunity to take part in a financially rewarding job, aptly named The Antarctic Assignment. They are willing to pay him one million pounds for his participation. David is highly enthusiastic about the job offer and wants to accept straight away. However, Sue has some serious reservations.“Some things are better left alone,” is what Sue says in order to convince him that he should not take the job. David and Sue were the lone survivors of a scientific expedition to Siberia several years ago. All of their close friends died in mysterious circumstances. The memories of this tragedy comes flooding back and causes Sue to feel very sceptical about The Antarctic Assignment. Nothing of consequence has been told to David about what the assignment entails, and Sue believes this is because of the dangers associated with the job.Why are they willing to pay one million pounds for a few weeks work in Antarctica? This question has to be put on hold, as the Smith’s face an immediate danger that they never saw coming.
