The Last of Us

2014: Ebola, one of the most feared viruses known to man, strikes in West Africa. Meanwhile, the governments of the world agree global population is at a critical level and needs to be addressed before it reaches breaking point. The Ebola virus is genetically altered, a hybrid is created and released in 2016 with the intention of reducing human numbers. It does just that, in a very short space of time, with globally devastating results. However, the virus doesn't necessarily kill outright and due to the rabies aspect of the hybrid, many people become ferocious, mindless beings, attacking anyone unaffected that they encounter. Over time, their bodies decay, they become slower… yet no less deadly. Jenny was a researcher, at the lower end of the chain concerned with the creation of the virus. We pick up with Jenny and her two close friends, Steve and John, 2 months after the release of the virus and follow her back to the research centre where she worked, in hopes of finding out more, expanding the group to 6 along the way as well as encountering some infected and hostiles. They set up home at the research centre, clearing and securing the buildings then relying on the virtually untouched supermarkets and other stores for supplies and provisions. The World Health Organisation seek and find Jenny, and there is a temporary pleasant surprise for her, but then it becomes clear she is in danger and she needs to get back to her friends. After a frightening encounter with more hostiles, Jenny and company need to find another home as they are no longer safe at the research centre. What will become of them? What will become of the human race? The future is uncertain, the effects of the Ebola hybrid virus far more destructive than the powers that be had anticipated. They simply wanted a world with less people… now the world has virtually no people…
