Deathstalker Chronicles: Book 1: Invasion of the Undead

Chase Brooks was born to be a Marine. He was a door kicker supreme, and lived for his team. At home in the violence of combat, Brooks never met an enemy that he couldn’t defeat. On deployment in Afghanistan, the hulking Marine was tasked, along with his teammates with taking down an ancient underground temple that was a hotbed of insurgents. The mission went sideways. After reaching the location and fighting their way underground to set the explosive charges, Chase saw the dead enemy soldiers rise from the ground and rip his teammates limb from limb.Certain that he was going to die as well, the remaining Marine detonated the charges, bringing the temple down on himself and the leader of the undead, an enigmatic figure with glowing red eyes.Brooks wakes up in a hospital bed, surprised to be alive. He finds himself back in the States, and no longer a Marine. While in a coma, he has been discharged from the Corps. With his body broken and his spirit injured, civilian Chase Brooks rehabs at the VA in Chesapeake. Despite the urgings of his psychiatrist, Brooks believes that what he saw in Afghanistan was real.Adding to the young warrior’s problems, he begins to hear the voices of his fallen comrades. Knowing that telling anyone about the voices that he’s hearing would keep him hospitalized, he keeps it to himself.Just prior to being released, he is attacked by two orderlies in the middle of the night. The men move stiffly, and their eyes burn the same red that the undead soldiers in Afghanistan showed. Once he neutralized them, he recognized that they had been dead when they entered his room. The police were suspicious, but had no evidence of wrongdoing, so he was released as scheduled.Once back in the “world,” Brooks can’t shake the feeling of being stalked. That feeling is justified: while out on a run, he is attacked again by zombies with glowing eyes.Chase refuses to be a victim, and goes on the offensive. He goes to his old mentor to rearm, and with the support of an unlikely group, declares war on the undead.
